We would advise you not to ignore this New York speeding ticket since NYS has reciprocal agreements with both Quebec and Ontario. The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles notes that moving violations from Ontario and Quebec are placed on a New Yorker’s driving record and points are assessed so the NYS DMV does share information and get information from both of these Canadian provinces.
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) states that drivers convicted of a driving related offence in the State of New York, the State of Michigan or any Canadian province or territory, will have home jurisdictional penalties such as demerit points and/or suspensions applied to their Ontario driver record as if the offence occurred in Ontario.
According to the SAAQ driver’s manual the Quebec government has entered into reciprocal agreements with Ontario and states of New York and Maine. They note that failure to pay a fine could result in suspension of the driver’s right to drive in Quebec.
So if you fail to pay or otherwise legally take care of the New York speeding ticket the NY court will likely inform the SAAQ since your license and car registration were from Quebec. If by this time you have already transferred your driver’s license and registration to Ontario then the SAAQ or New York courts should then inform the Ontario MTO that you failure to take care of the NYS speeding ticket at which time it is likely that your license will be suspended or have other penalties put against it since these 2 Canadian provinces and New York are all in reciprocal agreements.
You may try to see since this is a low level speeding ticket if the New York court will allow you to reduce it or if there is any type of traffic school you could take to dismiss it.
