You would need to speak to your auto insurance agent about wanting to waive or refuse Personal Injury Protection (PIP) to get the PIP waiver. On our web site, if you are able to waive PIP, 'NO COVERAGE' will be an available option during quote and purchase. If you select this, then you will be mailed a PIP Waiver form or fill it out online during your e-signature process. This is only available in some states. If your state requires PIP as part of a basic auto insurance policy then you are not able to waive this coverage.
If instead your state only requires PIP to be offered to you and you must refuse in writing, by means of a PIP waiver, then you could turn down this coverage. Your insurance agent would have this waiver if you are allowed to use one in your state.
The PIP waiver will then be kept on file with your insurance company. Normally if you want to then add PIP coverages at a later date you will need to request this in writing and ask that the PIP waiver be voided out. It you waive PIP coverages then they will not be afforded to you and usually will not be offered again at renewal time since you have already waived or denied these coverages from being added to your policy.
If you want to know more about your state laws regarding PIP waivers then you can speak with your agent or contact your state's insurance regulatory body.
