The representative of the California Department of Motor Vehicles that we spoke with stated that when you move to CA your previous state's driving record does not transfer. So if you are moving to CA from Texas and have convictions for tickets on your Texas driving record they should not transfer to your new California driver's history.
If however you have not taken care of citations you received in Texas then California would not allow you to obtain a CA driver's license until you had a clean license, clear of any outstanding tickets.
Also they noted if you received a ticket in California before receiving the California license then a record was started for you here and thus when you apply and obtain a CA driver's license the California offenses will be placed on this license and record. Since the violation will be placed on your CA driving record we believe that the points would also be assigned to you now as a California resident.
Since you already paid the fine and thus plead guilty to the speeding ticket to the best of our knowledge you cannot now take traffic school to keep the speeding violation or points from your license. You may want to contact the court though to see if this is an option even at this late date.
Since you have relocated to California you should be aware that once you take a job here or become a resident, you must get a California driver license within 10 days. Residency is established by voting in a California election, paying resident tuition, filing for a homeowner's property tax exemption, or any other privilege or benefit not ordinarily extended to nonresidents.
You also will need to register your vehicle in CA within 20 days per California state laws. To register your vehicle you will need to obtain California auto insurance, which you can get a quote for her with us.
