My husband received a speeding ticket in Wisconsin (aggressive driving). He has a North Carolina Drivers license and resides in North Carolina. Will the points be exchanged with NC? Will it appear on his driving record?

While Wisconsin is not part of the Drivers License Compact (DLC) which your home state of North Carolina takes part in, the Wisconsin courts and DMV does share information with the licensing states of those that are convicted of moving violations within Wisconsin.

So if your husband is found guilty and is convicted of his speeding (aggressive driving) ticket then Wisconsin should inform the North Carolina DMV about the violation.

The motor vehicle laws of NC allow for convictions occurring outside of North Carolina to be recorded on your driving record but points are assigned only for convictions occurring in North Carolina to the best of our knowledge. If aggressive driving is found to be a serious traffic offense that would result in a suspension or revocation in NC, than these penalties may apply in NC once they are notified of your husband's out of state violation.

Your husband can check with the NC DOT to find out for certain if points will be assigned to his North Carolina driving record and how the WI offense will be listed, as aggressive driving or speeding.

If your rates rise due to your husband's out of state ticket you can shop around for more affordable car insurance here with us.
