I own a Jeep Wrangler and have full coverage insurance. In the summer time I run with the soft top and on some days nothing on it all. Even when the soft top is on and the doors are locked it only takes the knowledge of a zipper to get into the Jeep and when the top is off it is even easier. I wanted to know if any interior damage or theft of stock equipment, or even the car itself happens, will comprehensive coverage will still cover this?

You would need to read through the terms of your policy and then if necessary discuss your coverages with your insurance agent, however in general your comprehensive coverage should cover you if the car is stolen and for any damage or vandalism that may occur to it.

Since your jeep with its soft type is basically a type of convertible you are likely paying a bit more for insurance since the insurance carrier knows that it may be easier for a thief to break into your car and steal it or harm the interior. For example a Ford Mustang convertible will cost about $200 more per year to insure than the hardtop. Part of this is due to theft, many models of convertibles are among the most stolen of all cars.

You may want to discuss with your insurance provider if getting an alarm or trying to protect your car in other ways may help you get discounts and thus bring down your insurance rates on your vehicle. There are alarm systems that you can place on a car that provide a starter disconnect. With this device if someone tries to steal your Jeep Wrangler they will not be able to get anywhere since they will be unable to start it up.

We have also read of Jeep owners having a fuel valve toggle switch which they flip off when the car is parked. This would not allow a thief to drive the car since there would be no fuel pickup, however this may cause damage to the car depending on how it works and what the potential thief does to the vehicle.

We have also heard of Wrangler owners who put a battery disconnect switch under the hood and then get a keyed hood latch lock. These are ways in which you may help keep your car from being stolen since it can be easy for a thief to reach into the car.

As for personal items in the car, usually these are not covered by auto insurance, but may be by a homeowner's or renter's insurance policy. With a convertible or Jeep of your kind it is usually best not to have anything in the vehicle that a thief may see and want to steal. As for stock items, such as your radio, you would again need to check with your insurance agent to see if it would be covered. Remember you would need to pay a deductible if your coverages did cover your radio and any other stock equipment covered under your comprehensive coverage.
