Yes, if you have a Delaware driver's license if you plead guilty and send in the payment for the speeding ticket you will have the offense put on your DE driving record and assigned points.
In Delaware speeding ticket convictions are usually assigned the following amount of points:
- 1- 9 mph over the posted limit is 2 points
- 10 -14 mph over the posted limit is 4 points
- 15-19 mph over the posted limit is 5 points
- 20 mph or more over the posted limit is 5 points
There does however appear to be a way in which to not get points assessed for a speeding ticket. If you were cited for going only between 1 to 14 mph over the posted speed you may not be assessed points according to the DE Driver's Manual IF (a) it was your first violation within any three (3) year period and (b) the ticket is paid through the Voluntary Assessment Center.
If you were caught speeding at a high rate of speed or many miles over the limit then there could be other penalties to face besides the fine and points. An advisory letter is sent to drivers when convicted for speeding 20-24 MPH over the posted speed limit.
In Delaware a driver will be suspended for one (1) month when convicted of driving 25 MPH over the posted speed limit. The length of suspension will increase by one month for each additional 5 MPH over the initial 25-MPH threshold. The driver may elect to attend the behavior modification/attitudinal-driving course in lieu of license suspension when driving 25-29 MPH over the posted limit. For speeding 30 MPH over the posted limit or more, the suspension is mandatory.
One-year suspension when convicted of driving 50 MPH or more over the posted speed limit or driving 100 MPH on a DE highway.
