The North Carolina Insurance Department notes that Medical Payment Coverage pays for reasonable and necessary medical and funeral expenses due to an automobile accident. Individuals covered under this coverage include:
- You or any family member while occupying any automobile, or as a pedestrian when struck by a motor vehicle; or
- Any other person while occupying your covered automobile or any vehicle (private passenger automobile or trailer licensed for road use) driven by you or a family member.
The Medical Payments coverage will not provide coverage for any expenses if the injuries occur while occupying a motorized vehicle with less than four wheels.
The policy will pay up to the limits listed in your policy for each individual injured. The highest limit we offer at CarInsurance.com is $100,000. Each carrier has different limits and values available.
For instance Direct General offers MedPay in the limits of $500 to $2000. Safeco offers MedPay in limits of $500 to $5000 and Progressive goes up to $10,000. The Hartford offers MedPay in NC in limits ranging from $1000 to $5000. Both Travelers and Encompass offer Medical Payments insurance in limits from $500 to $100,000 for North Carolina motorists.
