Delaware and Indiana are both part of the Drivers License Compact (DLC). Members of this agreement are required to report tickets received by motorists back to the state where the driver is licensed. This means that the Florida court should report to the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles this speeding ticket once you are convicted of it in IN.
The Delaware Code of law lists the Drivers License Compact under Chapter 81 of Title 21, the Motor Vehicle section. This section unfortunately does not make it clear if points will be assigned once the out of state violation is reported to the DMV so we contacted the Division of Motor Vehicles directly.
The Delaware DMV representative that we spoke to noted that this state agency does receive in all out of state ticket information and then places the out of state violation on your record and assigns it points. According to the DE points list, speeding 20 MPH or more over posted limit is 5 points on your license and could also result in additional actions including suspension. Advisory letters are sent to the driver when convicted for speeding 20-24 MPH over the posted speed limit.
You may see if traffic school or a driving course is available to you as a way to dismiss the ticket. Find out if this is possible by contacting the Indiana court listed on your traffic ticket. You may also see if the ticket can be reduced to a different violation that would not be reported back to Delaware.
