I am not entirely sure what was written on the ticket, but I believe it was 100 in a 65. It is in California and listed under vehicle code section 22349A. When reporting my incidents to insurance companies, do I put speeding over 100, or just regular speeding? Because from what I've read 22349A is not the code for speeding over 100 MPH. How long would this incident stay on my record? And, if an incident is not on my record, or has been cleared from my record, am I still required to report it?

When applying for insurance or when your current car insurance carrier asks you for insurance on your driving record they normally ask what type of violation you were convicted of. So while the ticket may be for speeding at 100 mph you will need to find out from the court, or the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), what this offense will be listed as on your driving record. You may also try to see if you can plea it down since a ticket for going 100 mph is seen as more serious of an offense to an insurer, potential employer, etc than a ticket for 10 or 20 over the speed limit.

You would not need to list this ticket as excessive speed, speeding over 100 mph, if you were only written up and convicted of going 100 mph, which appears to be a lesser speeding offense. You should slow down on the road in order to not raise your rates and increase the risk of fatalities on the roadways. The Vehicle Code in CA for excessive speeding / speeding over 100 mph is 22348. Here it states that:

(a) a person shall not drive a vehicle upon a highway with a speed limit established pursuant to Section 22349 or 22356 at a speed greater than that speed limit.

(b) A person who drives a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than 100 miles per hour is guilty of an infraction punishable, as follows:

(1) Upon a first conviction of a violation of this subdivision, by a fine of not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500). The court may also suspend the privilege of the person to operate a motor vehicle for a period not to exceed 30 days pursuant to Section 13200.5.

You said you were instead written up by law enforcement for CA VC 22349A which states that no person may drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than 65 miles per hour. So it appears that you were cited for this lesser violation of traffic laws due to the fact the ticket was not over 100 mph and just at 100 mph.

In California the Department of Motor Vehicles keeps a public record of all your traffic convictions and accidents. Tickets and accidents are assigned points. Each incident is assigned a point. Depending on the type of traffic ticket, you can get from 1 - 2 points for a traffic ticket, 1 point for an accident.

The length of time depends on the severity of the offense. Most points (illegal turn, not making a complete stop, driving over the speed limit, etc.) and/or accidents will stay on your driver record for 36 months (3 years). Points for more serious offenses, such as hit-and-run or a DUI will stay on your record for up to 10 years. To see how this violation is listed on your driving record and how long it will stay on your MVR contact the CA DMV.

If this traffic ticket conviction is not on your driving record than likely enough time has passed so that you do not have to report it. But if an insurance company asks you about moving violations you have been convicted of in the last so many years and this citation was during that time period you should inform them of it. If the violation is already off your motor vehicle record than likely the insurer will not rate you on it.
