The State of Nevada requires that all registered motor vehicles be covered by liability insurance. A Nevada Evidence of Insurance card must be carried in your vehicle at all times and presented to any law enforcement officer upon request.
Nevada requires that automobile liability insurance policies carry minimum coverage of $15,000 for bodily injury or death of one person in any one accident; $30,000 for bodily injury or death or two or more persons on any one accident; and $10,000 for injury to or destruction of property of others in any one accident. Coverage must be reported by an insurance company authorized to do business in the State of Nevada.
In NV motorists who have dropped their insurance are asked first to verify their coverage with the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles. If there is no response or the coverage cannot be verified, the DMV suspends the registration and notifies the owner through a certified letter.

Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 485.187 speaks about the other penalties one may receive for driving without insurance. In Subsection 1 it says that the owner of a motor vehicle shall not operate the motor vehicle, if it is registered or required to be registered in this State, without having insurance as required by NRS 485.185. The owner also should not operate or knowingly permit the operation of the motor vehicle without having evidence of insurance of the operator or the vehicle in the vehicle or knowingly permit the operation of the motor vehicle while it is uninsured.
Subsection 2 notes that a person shall not operate the motor vehicle of another person unless he first ensures that the required evidence of insurance is present in the motor vehicle; or he has his own evidence of insurance which covers him as the operator of the motor vehicle.
Subsection 3 states the penalty for this by saying that any person who violates subsection 1 or 2 is guilty of a misdemeanor. In addition to any other penalty a person shall be punished by a fine of not less than $600 nor more than $1,000 for each violation. The fine must be reduced to $100 for the first violation if the person obtains a motor vehicle liability policy by the time of sentencing.
