I recently had to send a certificate of compliance to the Indiana BMV, it was faxed there by my insurance provider. Now they are saying I need to have a SR-50 sent to them, along with a $150 fine. My license is currently now suspended. How can I find out if they received my compliance certificate? If I had insurance and they didn't receive my compliance can I get around the fine and other form? Thanks.

You will need to contact the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) to see why your license was suspended and they are requiring the SR-50 and a fee to reinstate your driving privileges.

It may be that your certificate of compliance was not received by them or processed by the deadline. If you did have insurance in effect for the time period they requested the certificate of compliance on and your insurance company has proof that they sent it to the IN BMV than it may just be that the BMV did not receive the information and thus suspended your license. If your insurer faxed the certificate of compliance you may see if a fax confirmation and copy of the certificate shown to the BMV may be able to get your license suspension and other penalties lifted.

In Indiana one typically has to show a certificate of compliance after they are sent a notification by the BMV. It may say:

The Court noted below convicted you of the traffic offense listed. Therefore, Indiana law requires you to show proof that you had financial responsibility for the motor vehicle involved. You must have the insurance company, bond company, or surety that provided this financial responsibility complete the Certificate of Compliance form below and mail it to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). If the BMV does not receive the Certificate of Compliance by <mm/dd/yyyy>, Indiana law requires the BMV to suspend your driver's license, vehicle registration, or both. You should allow seven to ten days for the BMV to process the Certificate of Compliance.

To get to the bottom of why your driver's license was suspended so that you must pay a $150 reinstatement fee and file a SR-50 to get it back you will need to contact the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles directly. A representative for the BMV should be able to look up your license and find out what the issues are regarding your license and tell you how to resolve them. If your certificate of compliance was not received see who you can speak to or send correspondence to show that you were insured at that certain period and that your insurance company had sent in this form to the BMV.
