The Arkansas Office of Motor Vehicle, which is under the AR Department of Finance and Administration (DFA), told us that there is really no age limit to owning a vehicle. From that I take that there is not a written law regarding the minimum age that one car title and register a car in AR.
The representative went on to say that a vehicle can legally be assigned over to someone as owner at any age, but you one of course cannot drive the vehicle unless he or she is of age to have a valid driver’s license.
So it would appear that there is no minimum age to buy, trade or sale a car in Arkansas. However if you are a minor or want to buy or trade a car with a minor (someone under the age of 18) I would recommend checking with a lawyer about laws in AR surrounding doing something of this nature with a minor.
In general in the U.S. a contract with a minor, if not also signed on by a parent or guardian, can be minor can be found invalid if the minor changes their mind. So when a minor enters into a contract without the consent of the parents or guardian they do not necessarily have to keep to the contract and thus it can be a risk buy, sale or trade vehicles with someone under the age of 18.
