My daughter took a Drivers training Course in school this past year, will that lower my rate? She also maintains a B average. Will this affect my rates?

Your daughter taking the driver's education course and/or her being considered a good student due to her maintaining a B average could help lower your auto insurance rates for your teenager that has been added to your policy.

We do believe it is helpful for new drivers to take a driving class if offered though because it is useful as they learn to drive for the first time but not all insurers offer a discount for a teen taking a driver's education class. In many states it is required of a teen to take a driver's education class and that is one reason that no discount is given by some insurance providers. Another reason is sometimes driver education classes or defensive driving courses are also used by some states in lieu of driving points after receiving a person receives a traffic citation and thus an insurer does not offer discounts for these courses.

There are some insurance companies though will allow you to qualify for lower rates by your child completing an accredited driver safety program like Drivers Education. For example Geico states that if a young driver in your family has completed a driver's education course, you may earn a discount on most coverages.

In most states many of the car insurance companies do offer discounts for drivers who are under 25, enrolled in high school or college and maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher and it is referred to as a good student discount. How much the discount will be varies but tends to be around 10% and up to 15%.

When buying from CarInsurance.com we will ask you questions about a young driver when you are purchasing your policy (if the insurer offers a good student discount) and your discount will automatically be applied (if available). Tell you daughter congratulations from CarInsurance.com, we hope she maintains the good grades and continues to improve.

Like other discounts, when buying from CarInsurance.com we'll ask if you qualify for these types of discounts and apply them automatically if they are available to you. Get started with instant car insurance quotes to see what type of discounts we can offer you so you can get low cost car insurance.
