The number of vehicles allowed on a policy varies by carrier. On the CarInsurance.com site we can quote up to four (4) vehicles at one time. We have carriers who take no more than 4 vehicles on a policy and others that will allow more than that.
In some cases, multiple policies may be written with the help of the agents at our call center which can be reached at 1-800-964-4849. Some other carriers will allow additional vehicles to be added to the policy by endorsement after the policy has been issued. Direct General and Progressive are two such companies that we work with that allow such options with but it can vary by state.
So insurance companies guidelines differ but many do have a limit or cap on the amount of vehicles allowed on an insurance policy. Most insurance carriers limit the amount of vehicles on a policy to 4, but you can add more by endorsement after the insurance policy is purchased.
You can insure as many cars as you own as long as the insurance company you are working with can handle it and they do not have rules to not allow it. Most insurance providers will setup a second policy if they cannot handle the amount of cars that you own on just the one policy.
Keep in mind that insurance rates usually will increase every time a car is added to the policy. This is because more vehicles are being insured and thus premiums will be due on each vehicle. The amount of the premium on each car will depend upon what coverages are placed on each automobile.
