No, Comprehensive and Collision coverages do not have a medical payment section to them. These coverages are known as physical damage coverages because they cover physical damages done to your vehicle. They do not cover injuries you or your passengers sustained in anyway.
You would need coverages such as Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury, Medical Payment coverage or Personal Injury Protection (PIP) to cover you and your passengers for injuries that you sustained in a hit and run accident where the at-fault person is unknown due to them leaving the scene of the accident.
Without having any of these coverages that could help pay for you or your passengers’ injuries you all would need to see if your personal health insurance would cover any medical expenses resulting from the accident. Some health insurers do while others have exclusions for car accident injuries.
What Comprehensive and Collision coverages does pay is for the damages to your vehicle that the hit and run driver caused.
Comprehensive covers losses caused by missiles, falling objects, fire, theft or larceny, explosion, earthquake, windstorm, hail, water, flood, malicious mischief or vandalism, riot or civil commotion, being hit by a bird or animal, or breakage of glass. This optional auto insurance coverage pays to fix your vehicle less the deductible you choose.
Collision coverage can cover damage to your car when your car hits, or is hit by, another vehicle, or other object. It does not matter who is at fault in the accident that damages your vehicle, you can make a claim under Collision however you will have a deductible to pay.
You should read through your auto insurance policy and speak to your agent about the actual coverages you have in place to see if any would help you if you and passengers riding in your car were injured by a hit and run driver.
