Montana as well as your home state of Missouri are both members of the Drivers License Compact (DLC). This agreement requires member states to report convictions of moving violations received by motorists back to the state where they received their license. This means that if you are convicted of the Montana speeding ticket will be reported back to Missouri.
The Missouri Division of Motor Vehicle and Drivers Licensing, part of the MO Department of Revenue (DOR), normally adds points to your record when it receives notice that you were convicted of a traffic violation while your vehicle was in motion for in-state offenses. The MO DOR does not state specifically what it does with out of state traffic violation information.
We contacted the Missouri DMV to see clarification on this issue however have not yet received a response yet to find out if out of state violations are added to a Missouri driver's motor vehicle record (MVR) and assigned points. If points are assessed then it would be from the Missouri point system. In MO speeding can be worth 2 or 3 points.
If the Montana speeding citation is added to your MO driving record your insurance company will find out about the traffic offense the next time they pull your driving record and see the violation listed on your driving record.
If you want to continue researching the Drivers License Compact and its affect on Missouri drivers, it is mentioned under section 302.600 of the Missouri Revised Code.
