The law enforcement officer may have been able to pull up information to confirm you had a valid license, we are uncertain if they have that capability so you would have to check with the Connecticut police department or court, however it is against the law to drive without carrying your driver's license with you.
It would appear that you were cited under Section 14-213 of the Connecticut Statutes. This portion of CT law is titled Operation without carrying operator's license. Here it states that each operator of a motor vehicle shall carry his operator's license while operating such vehicle. Failure to carry such operator's license as required by the provisions of this section shall be an infraction. From what we have read failure to carry your operator's license with you is an infraction which comes with a fine of between $75 and $90 but with fees comes can come up to $95 or more.
If the police officer believed you were unlicensed altogether than he or she would normally have ticketed you for driving without a valid license. Connecticut statutes (Motor Vehicles Chapter 246, Section 14) discuss the penalties for driving without a valid license. Here it states that any person who violates any provision of this section shall, for a first offense, be deemed to have committed an infraction and be fined not less than seventy-five dollars or more than ninety dollars and, for any subsequent offense, shall be fined not less than two hundred fifty dollars or more than three hundred fifty dollars or be imprisoned not more than thirty days, or both.
If you were cited for being an unlicensed motorist or for not having your license in your possession in CT then contact the court listed on your citation to find out more about the possible penalties you will be facing in court and if you bring to court your valid driver's license if it would make a difference or get your ticket dismissed.
