No, you do not need to obtain an Arizona driver's license in order to register and insure your vehicle in AZ. The Arizona Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) stated that you can title and register your vehicle in their state using your valid out of state driver's license from Georgia.
Arizona does require that every motor vehicle operated on their roadways be covered by one of the statutory forms of financial responsibility, more commonly called Liability insurance, through a company that is authorized to do business in Arizona.
Minimum levels of financial responsibility in Arizona are:
- $15,000 bodily injury liability for one person and $30,000 for two or more persons
- $10,000 property damage liability
In general in order to register a vehicle in Arizona you must pass an emission test (depending upon how old your vehicle is), pass a physical inspection of the vehicle by the MVD, show proof of Arizona auto insurance and your out-of-state title and registration which must be surrendered at the time of application for Arizona title and registration. For more information on the AZ registration process contact the Arizona MVD directly.
Getting insurance without an Arizona driver's license should not be an issue since you do have a vacation home in AZ to list as your location for the Arizona car insurance policy. Insurers understand that some people have vacation homes out of state and do not live there long enough during the year to change over their driver's license.
