An endorsement with an auto insurance policy is basically a change. It has a document, which is attached to the policy and modifies or changes the original policy in some way. Some also refer to endorsements as riders.
Endorsements are optional provisions you can add to your auto insurance policy to expand your coverage or reduce your coverage. These additions or changes to your policy are made by the insurance company and can affect the cost of your premiums depending on what type of changes you are making.
For example if you have added someone to the policy as a driver this can be down with an endorsement. Or say your child has moved out, than an endorsement could be done to take the child off of your policy, and thus save you money on your policy.
If you have changed coverages, such as adding Collision and Comprehensive to your policy or taking these optional coverages off than again an endorsement can be used to accomplish this.
If you have used aftermarket parts to customize your vehicle than of cars many insurance companies would then want to do an endorsement to cover these non-factory parts that would not be covered under your typical car insurance policy.
These are a few reasons that an endorsement would be made on your policy. An endorsement is basically a change of some sort with your policy and depending upon the change it could raise or lower your insurance premium amount.
If you haven't requested any changes and are not aware of any changes made to the policy than you will need to contact your agent to see what endorsement this notice was referring to. A change can be made by underwriting or the company. For example, they can pull your driving record and endorse your policy to reflect the proper amount of points. This could cause a change. A company could find something different than the policy application and do an endorsement to correct the information submitted.
If there was a change you did not request than it is important to make sure you still have the coverages you want on your policy. Speak to your agent and find out what has specifically taken place with your car insurance policy.
