Do the cars covered under a single family policy all have to be in the name of one registered owner and do they all have to carry the same levels of coverage?

Yes, normally all of the vehicles on one policy must carry the same limits of Liability coverage.

Most of our carriers here at CarInsurance.com require that the named insured or spouse be an owner or co-owner on the vehicle to cover the vehicle on the policy. So, in a household the policyholder typically has to be listed as an owner or co-owner of a vehicle on its title to have it on their policy.

Esurance is the exception to this and will allow a household member or a non owner to insure a vehicle providing they are the driver (unless prohibited by state law).
