QuestionInsurance Question  My car got wrecked and the auto insurance claim adjuster sent me to one of their "approved" shops. I want to take my car to the shop of my choice even though it is not one of their "approved" shops. Do I have the right to chose my own repair facility?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Some insurance companies offer a reduced or discounted premium to policyholders that agree to select their repair shops in the event of a loss. If the insured chooses this option and pays a reduced premium, they must use the company's shop. If the company offers a repair shop and the insured uses that shop, the company must guarantee the repairs. If the policyholder chooses their own repair shop, the company will pay based on an agreed upon repair estimate. The insurance company will not guarantee the repairs, nor will they be responsible for any delays in completing the repairs. The insurance company can not force you to use the shop they choose.
