QuestionInsurance Question  If I borrow someone's vehicle to go on a trip, is there anyway I can insure that vehicle? So, if anything happens to it, I'm responsible (not the person from whom I borrowed the vehicle)?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

I do not believe you can do anything that will keep the vehicle owner from responsibility. You may want to look into purchasing a ‘named non-owner’ policy. This policy will provide coverage for liability, medical payments, and uninsured motorist coverages for someone who does not own a vehicle and will be operating a vehicle owned by someone else. The only problem is the owner of the vehicle is ultimately held accountable for anyone who drives the vehicle. This is indirect accountability is called ‘vicarious liability.’
