QuestionInsurance Question  I had my license suspended for one year for a 'dui.' I will be getting my license back in about 2 to 3 weeks. I wanted to purchase a car before I get my license back. Will I be able to register the car in my name and get insurance? Or, do I have to wait until I get my license reinstated?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

You will need to provide proof of insurance before you can register a vehicle. In most cases, you can purchase insurance before you reinstate your driver's license. However, your insurance company will most likely demand you provide proof your license has been reinstated within thirty days of your policy's inception date, or they will cancel your policy. You will need to check with the state you reside in to find out if they will allow you to register a vehicle with a suspended driver's license.
