QuestionInsurance Question  Is there an age where children can no longer be insured on their parents policies?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

No, there is not age where children can no longer be insured on their parent's policies.

Insurance companies don't necessarily look at relationships. They look at the risks involved. It also depends on the type of insurance you're asking about.

For your child's personal property, personal belongings will be covered under the parents' homeowners' policy, no matter what your age. However, some policies may limit the amount of coverage on certain items. Once a child moves out of the house, they will need to purchase separate renters insurance to cover their personal belongings.

For car insurance, if the child lives with their parents and drive their car(s), then they are eligible to stay listed on the parents' car insurance policy.

With health insurance, most health plans will cover the child until they are between 20 to 24 years old. Most policies will cover you if you live at home or at college.
