QuestionInsurance Question  While living in NC my wife hit a food cooler that was left in the middle of the highway. She had no way of avoiding it and it damaged our car in the amount of 1200.00 dollars. We were told by Geico that it would not affect our insurance because it was under the state limit and points to our insurance would not be administered. With that advice we submitted a claim. About 6 to 8 months later we relocated to Chicago Illnois and notified Geico of our move. They then raised our premium because the IL limits were lower than NC and they say they can transfer the amount of the claim form NC to IL which raised our ins. premiums. Is this permitted? I find it hard to believe they can do this and agrued with them but they refused to budge. Any advice?

You insurance company is correct that different states have different limits. To find out about the Illinois state insurance limits contact the state's insurance regulator. This department should be able to explain your rights as a consumer.
