The State of New York has deemed it necessary a driver must pay the driver responsibility assessment if after November 18, 2004 you are convicted of an alcohol-related traffic violation, you are convicted of a drug-related traffic violation, a DMV hearing determines that you refused a chemical test or you received six or more points on your driver record during a period of 18 months. The different violations are assessed different fees to pay for three years.

If you receive a statement from the NY DMV that instructs you to pay a driver responsibility assessment, you must pay the assessment. If you do not pay the assessment, the DMV will suspend your driver license, your learner permit, or your driving privileges. Your driver's license being suspended will most likely affect your driving privileges in Connecticut as well. Both states are part of a Driver License Agreement that allows DMVs to share information.
