QuestionInsurance Question  I was hit by a driver with no insurance? I don't have information on the driver. The damage to my car is much more than I can afford. I live in Maryland. Can I submit the claim to my insurance company and are they obiligated to pay for the damage?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Insurance companies differ but if you have collision coverage generally you would be covered for your damages. From my research it appears that Maryland requires its residents to purchase uninsured and underinsured motorist coverages. If this is true this coverage should help cover your expenses. Contact your insurance agent to see if your coverages will take care of the damages. If so you should be able to submit your claim.

If you need the other person's information for your insurance company to verify that the person is uninsured get a copy of the police report from the incident. It should have all of the other party's information listed. If you have any more questions regarding your insurance rights for you can contact the Maryland Insurance Administration.
