QuestionInsurance Question  I just got pulled over in PA for disregarding a red signal. I have a NY license. My question is, will this be reported to the insurance company? This is my first ticket.

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Running a red signal light in both Pennsylvania and New York State is usually 3 points on your driver's license. Typically this citation would show up on your motor vehicle record because of the Driver's License Agreement that most states are a part of and allows the sharing of motor vehicle records.

New York is part of this but the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles, with a few exceptions (PA not being one of them), does not record out-of-state violations committed by NYS drivers in other jurisdictions. The NYS DMV also does not add points for out-of-state violations. Just make sure to respond to your ticket from PA or NYS will suspend your license.Because of how NYS deals with out-of-state tickets it is doubtful, but not impossible, that the ticket will show up when the insurance company pulls up your MVR.
