QuestionInsurance Question  My roommate got a DUI 3 years ago. License was suspended for a year. She was told that she was suppose to get a SR22. She hasn't driven since her DUI. She hasn't gone to get her license. She lives in Florida. Since she hasn't gone to get her license, when she goes to get her license does she still have to carry an SR22 for five years?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Florida requires a person to carry an SR22 for three years. In Florida if you are part of a violation that results in a revocation of your driver's license and did not have insurance to comply with financial responsibility laws you have to show the department of motor vehicles certified proof of full liability insurance on Form SR-22 for three years to get your driving privilege back.

To understand more about your roommate's situation you can call Florida's Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles at 850-922-9000 or contact your local DMV.
