QuestionInsurance Question  What do I do if I was issued a ticket for no insurance on a vehicle that I do not own and and the vehicle had no insurance?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

If you were issued a ticket for no insurance on a vehicle that you did not own you should first determine if the citation was written to you personally or the vehicle. In some states the law enforcement officer has the choice of citing the vehicle (owner) or the driver of an uninsured vehicle.

Some states will suspend your license and require you to obtain proof of insurance with regards to your state's financial responsibility laws if the ticket was written against you personally. State laws will vary on this. If the citation is for you call the department listed on the ticket to find out what steps you need to take to rectify the situation.
