QuestionInsurance Question  My boyfriend pulled over on the freeway and got a speeding ticket and he was driving my car. He got the ticket, but the cop asked for the registration on the car and all that information is mine. So will my insurance go high and will it show that someone driving my car got pulled over?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

State laws vary but it is doubtful that your state DMV will have your boyfriend's citation listed with your driving record. The law enforcement officer that stopped your boyfriend checked the registration to make sure that the car's registration was up to date, that the car did not have any tickets on it and to make sure it was not reported stolen. Once the car checked out okay it would typically be your boyfriend that would be cited for the speeding offense so it would be his name on the ticket and not your vehicle.

Generally a moving violation citation received by someone else driving your car would not affect your insurance rates. If for some reason it does you can get a cheap car insurance quote here.
