QuestionInsurance Question  I received a reckless driving due to speed ticket in Virginia. Will that go against my driving record in CT?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Virginia does report tickets received in its state to the home state listed on a person's driver's license. When VA does this the ticket will show up on your Connecticut driving record. You will need to take care of the Virginia ticket as required on the citation or you will also be in trouble in your home state of CT.

Virginia has many driving offenses that they consider to be reckless driving, including speeding 20 mph over the posted speed limit. Reckless driving is considered felony or misdemeanor depending on the exact charge. The maximum penalty for reckless driving is one year in jail, a $2500 fine, a 6 month license suspension and 6 points (if you had a VA license). Jurisdictions differ on the penalties they impose so you will have to see what you receive.

Depending on what your penalty is your license could be suspended in both states. The normal penalty in CT for reckless driving is a suspending a person' license for 30 to 90 days.
