QuestionInsurance Question  I was carrying a International Drivers Permit (IDP) to the United States that expired. I want to get a new IDP or renew the same one, if possible, till the time I get my US drivers license. Please advice as to where to appraoch for the same.

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

The International Drivers Permit is not required in all states for you to drive. The IDP is a translation of the information on your foreign driver's license; it is typically your country's valid driver's license that allows you to drive in the US.

You should contact the department of motor vehicles in the state in which you are in and find out if you need to renew your IDP or not. If you do they should be able to help you find the right place to go, if not you can contact the American Automobile Association at aaa.com to find out if they can help you since they do provide IDPs for US drivers.

It sounds like you plan on getting a US license shortly. If that is the case and you need insurance you can get a free car insurance quote here.
