QuestionInsurance Question  A week or so ago my windshield broke all the way across within minutes of noticing it. I have full coverage in Alabama under Travelers and they say my windshield is subject to a deductible. I have had broken windshields before with other companies and not once have I paid a deductible for its replacement. Do they have the right to charge a deductible?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Some states, such as Florida, have a statute or law which allows a deductible to not be applied when having a windshield replaced. I could find no such law for Alabama but to make certain you can contact the Alabama department of insurance.

It could be that your other previous insurance companies waived the deductible for your comprehensive coverage that covers windshield damage. You could ask your current one to do so as well, but it would be up to their discrection without there being a state law to mandate it.
