QuestionInsurance Question  How long do traffic violations stay on your driving record in Indiana?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Indiana assesses point values to various traffic offenses. These points can range from 2 point to 8 points depending on the seriousness of the violation. Points are then put onto your driving record and stay active for two years from the conviction date of the citation.

According to the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) the points may be disregarded after 2 years but the violations remain on the record since IN state continues to track your violations. If they find you have committed repeat traffic offenses over a 10 year period, IN will classify you as a habitual traffic violator. The Habitual Traffic Violator law for repeat offenders provides for license suspensions of 5 years, 10 years, or life.
