QuestionInsurance Question  I recently received two speeding citations in the state of Illinois. I also received one speeding ticket in Indiana and one seat belt ticket. I am worried about my points. How many points will I have on my license?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

According to the Illinois Secretary of State office (SOS), they keep a record of traffic violations and accidents you accumulate on your driving record while you are a resident of IL. The SOS also notes that if an Illinois driver is convicted of a traffic violation while driving in another state, it will be included on your driving record as though it had happened in IL.

Neither the SOS office nor the Illinois Driver's Handbook regarding traffic laws mentioned points for traffic violations. If you believe IL has a points system for traffic tickets you should contact the Driver Services Department of the SOS for a listing of the points you will receive for the various citations you received in both Illinois and Indiana.
