QuestionInsurance Question  I am a Connecticut resident. I just received a speeding ticket in Massachusetts going 92 mph in a 65 mph zone. What should I expect to happen because of this?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

The state of Massachusetts is not a part of the Drivers License Compact which allows member state to transfer information regarding out of state tickets back to the state the driver was licensed in. Though MA is not a member of this Compact, their Registry of Motor Vehicles has arranged to share driving records and violation information with other states.

So it would appear that the MA RMV will send the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles information on your 17 mph over the speed limit ticket you received in Massachusetts. Whether the CT DMV will assign points or put this out of state citation on your driving record you will have to contact them to find out.

As for the Massachusetts ticket itself, according to the MA driver's manual the minimum penalty for a speeding ticket is $100. If you are caught going over 10 mph over the posted speed limit you will be fined an additional $10 for each mph you were traveling above the first 10. So it would appear your fine for going 27 mph over the speed limit would be $270. For more information try contacting the entity listed on the back of your speeding citation.

If the MA citation does make to your CT citation then depending on your insurance company's rating system your rates could be affect. Check with your insurance agent to find out how moving violations are rated and affect premiums.
