QuestionInsurance Question  This question is regarding a golf cart. My golf ball was on green, my friend who was playing with me has a golf cart and he asked me to drive the cart towards the green. I accidentally placed my foot on accelerator and bumped another cart. There is very slight visual damage to my friend's golf cart and no damage to other cart. Who is responsible for repair bill? Would this cost be covered by my home insurance policy?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

If your friend has golf cart insurance, a specialty type of insurance that is available in some areas, he might be able to put the claim through that insurance policy since he gave you permission to drive the cart at the time of the accident.

Many homeowners policy will cover if there is an injury to a person due to a golf cart but not the golf cart itself. You and your friend might still want to check with your homeowners insurance companies to see if the damage to your friend's golf cart will be covered under either policy. Likely your homeowner's policy would not cover it since the cart is not yours and the accident did not take place on your property.

If the friend's homeowner's policy does cover the damage, your friend might ask you to pay any deductible due since you were at-fault in the golf course incident. If there is not an insurance policy to cover the damage, it is likely that you could be held responsible for the costs of repairs since you were in control of the golf cart at the time of the incident.
