QuestionInsurance Question  When a vehicle has been stolen and vandalized, is the insured required to pay a deductible in order to have it fixed?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Yes, if your are putting a claim for a stolen vehicle and/or vandalism done to your auto than you as the insured party will need to pay a deductible. Theft and vandalism to a car are both covered under a comprehensive coverage policy. When a policyholder starts this type of coverage they choose the deducible amount they will pay if a claim is placed against the policy.

A deductible on an auto insurance policy is normally the dollar amount the policyholder must pay on a loss to which a deductible applies, such as a comprehensive coverage claim. For example, if your deductible is $500 and your car's damages are valued at $1500, you will need to pay $500 and your insurance company will pay $1000.
