Your home state of North Carolina takes part in the Drivers License Compact (DLC) which requires member states to exchange traffic violation information back to the state in which the motorist receiving the ticket is licensed.

Georgia is not a member of the DLC but the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles has decided to still gather information regarding their driver's out of state traffic convictions and also to report traffic violations back to the home state of motorists receiving tickets in the state of GA. So the NC DMV should be informed of this ticket.

The motor vehicle laws of NC allow for convictions occurring outside of North Carolina to be recorded on your driving record by the NC Division of Motor Vehicles. We have read that points are only assigned for convictions occurring in state. Laws can be changed or updated so to find out if points can or will be assigned for your GA 20 mph speeding ticket, contact the NC DMV.

Once the Georgia speeding ticket is reported to NC DMV and placed on your driving record, your insurance company will be able to see the traffic violation next time they pull your motor vehicle record (MVR). At that point, depending upon your insurance provider's rating system; it could affect your insurance premiums.
