QuestionInsurance Question  My wife's van was hit in the parking lot with very minimal damage. She called our agent and filed a claim. The insurance company wants us to pay a deductible of $500 which is actually greater than the cost of getting the van fixed. Could we just quit the claim and get it fixed on our own so we don't need to pay the $500 deductible?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Yes, your wife should be able to contact your insurance agent or the claims adjuster on the case to alert them to the fact she would like to quit the claim since the cost of repairs is less then your $500 deductible.

Typically an insurance company will decline any claim that is less than the deductible amount. Hopefully your auto insurer will make it easy for you to stop the claim process so that you can pay for the repairs on your own.

Articles in our Learning Center, such as the Function of an Insurance Adjuster, may be to help to you during this process.
