QuestionInsurance Question  I got a ticket for disregarding a red light (officer said that I didn't come to a complete stop before turning right on red). How many points do I get for this ticket and is there a way to fight it off so it doesn't stay on my record?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

You did not mention the state in which your offense occurred so to find out what the penalties may be for disregarding a red light you will need to either contact the clerk of the court listed on your citation and/or your state's Department of Motor Vehicles.

The court may only be able to tell you the fine or penalties for the ticket while the DMV should list the points and driver's license record implications due to receiving this ticket. The clerk of the court may be able tell you if you can plead the violation down to non-moving or how to fight the ticket in court so that it would stay off your driving record.

Depending upon your state laws, you may be able to take a traffic school, defensive driving or driver's course to keep the traffic ticket from being placed on your record or points assessed, again check with the court or DMV to see if this is an option for your situation.
