QuestionInsurance Question  I am from Canada, recently I got a ticket for driving with failure to have a qualified driver with me. I am still on my first year curfew and I was out past curfew. I was not speeding or anything The ticket was only for that reason, he was only doing a routine traffic stop so he says. Will my insurance increase a lot?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Your insurance shouldn't increase a lot from this situation.

We have a lot of information regarding the graduated licensing system of Canada. Please read our related questions for more specific information on your situation.

The time spent in level 1 and level 2 graduated licensing steps count towards the four years of experience one needs to be an accompanying driver. At the end of the level two, G2, minimum 12 months a driver can try to pass a road test to be come a fully licensed G driver.

This may be affected by your ticket and you will need to check with the Ministry of Transportation to see if you can qualify for the next steps. Insurance won't be greatly affected, if it is affected at all.

The Canadian government hasĀ found the graduated licensing system to be a successful program for young drivers. It has been helpful in reducing injury and death among novice drivers. Research shows that new teenage drivers are more likely to be involved in serious accidents or fatal collisions when they have other teenagers as passengers so that is why the restrictions are in place. With the graduated driving privileges and conditions on the drivers, they learn how to drive safely on the different roadways in Ontario, which is good for every driver on the road.
