QuestionInsurance Question  I have a VA drivers license, and I have -1 point on my record. Is minus 1 point good or bad? If VA gives you a point for every year you don't get a ticket and lets say that you get a speeding ticket for 4 points, then is -1 a good score?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

The state of Virginia, like most states, uses a point system to assign points for traffic violations to a driver's state driving record. Virginia DMV either assigns positive or negative points on the driving record.

Negative points or demerit points are received from traffic violations. A Positive point is given by the state to drivers with a valid Virginia drivers license, who maintain a violation free driving record for one full calendar year. You can earn a maximum of five positive points, and these positive points on your record help offset negative points you receive from traffic violations.

In your case you already had a -1 point on your record, a speeding ticket with 4 points will now put -5 points on your driving record. Not a good score to have on your record, as too many points can result in a suspension of your license.

You can still get insurance with that driving record at CarInsurance.com.
