QuestionInsurance Question  I have a Canadian license and received a speeding ticket in Michigan. Does that go against my driving record?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Your driving record may have this MI citation placed against it, it will depend upon if the province or territory where you reside in Canada has a reciprocal agreement with Michigan regarding moving violations and also if your area of Canada lists out of province or out of country citations their motorists driving records.

For example, Ontario also has some type of agreement with 41 states, including Michigan. The Ministry of Transportation website regarding demerit points notes specifically that drivers convicted of a driving related offense/violation in the US States of New York, Michigan or any Canadian province or territory, will have home jurisdictional penalties such as demerit points and/or suspensions applied to their Ontario driver record as if the offence occurred in Ontario.

If you live in a province other than Ontario, check with your area's ministry of transportation or like government agency to find out if the Michigan speeding ticket will be placed on your driving record.
