You can check with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) to find out if you can travel outside of the state with your provisional license. Likely you can.
If it is allowable to drive out of state with your NJ provisional license you will also want to check with the Department of Motor Vehicles in the states in which you plan to travel to make sure your license is seen as valid in those states and if there are any other restrictions placed on you beyond the NJ ones that follow you wherever you drive.
According to the NJ MVC a person with a provisional license must observe the following requirements and restrictions:
- No driving between 12:01 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.
- Passengers must be from your household. Only one additional person from outside your household is allowed in the vehicle
- If you are at least 21 years old, there are no passenger or hour restrictions
- Seat belts must be worn at all times
- You can't use cell phones, hand held video games or any other hand held electronic device
