QuestionInsurance Question  My license expired due to the expiration of my green card. I am told it will be a least a couple weeks before I can get the documents in place to renew it. However, I am in the process of buying a new car and the only way I can get it from the dealership is with insurance. Is there a possibility of getting insured in the State of CA with an expired license?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

Generally insurance companies will require a valid driver’s license in order for you to obtain insurance. If your license is newly expired though and can be renewed shortly, within 30 to 45 days, then an insurance company may allow you to start a policy. If you can get an insurance carrier to start a policy in this manner then you will need to obtain you license within the given time period or the insurance policy will be canceled.

Get a quote through our site, put in valid on the license and then contact Esurance directly at 1.800.ESURANCE (1-800-378-7262). They may be able to accept you as long as you are getting your license within 30 days. Contact us or comment and we will get you taken care of, if we can.
