In Indiana points for speeding tickets are assessed by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) as follows:
1 - 15 mph over the limit is a 2-point violation
16 - 25 mph over the limit is a 4-point violation
26 - plus over limit is a 6-point violation
So for your citation for going 88 in a 55 miles per hour zone, 27 mph over the limit, it is 6 points on your driving record.
The IN BMV notes that committing two or more traffic offenses in a 12-month period that result in convictions will require completion of a BMV-approved driver improvement program.
Completion of the course will not remove a violation from your record. However, you will receive a four point credit on your official Indiana Driver Record. Failure to complete the course or pay the fee within the specified time period will result in suspension of the individual's driving privileges.
