QuestionInsurance Question  I just realized my NC drivers license expired on 12-18-2006. Will I have to take the written test again or just the vision-sign test as is normal with a renewal?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

According to the North Carolina NCDOT Division of Motor Vehicles before your license expires, the DMV will mail you a reminder card explaining the number of years it will be valid. The card is not required in order to renew. If you do not have your current or expired license at renewal, you will be required to show the examiner 2 documents of identification.

The vision and traffic sign recognition tests are always required for a license renewal. The road test requirement is at the discretion of the Examiner. To find out if you will need to take any other tests due to the license being expired for about a month check with the Division of Motor Vehicles.
