QuestionInsurance Question  When you get a speeding ticket for 75 in a 55 in Connecticut. How many points is that worth? Also how do you know how many points get you suspended or how many each violation is worth?

AnswerAuto Insurance Answer

According to the Connecticut Violations and Infractions schedule if a person alleged to have committed a motor vehicle infraction or violation which is payable through the Centralized Infractions Bureau elects to send payment of the fine and any additional costs (total amount due) to the Centralized Infractions Bureau, no points shall be assessed by the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles against that person's operator's license for such infraction or violation.

Even though an infraction or mail-in violation will not cause automatic suspension of a driver's license or registration, it may be recorded on the motorist's motor vehicle history.

The Judicial Branch of the State of Connecticut also notes that if you make your payment in full and your case disposes at the Centralized Infractions Bureau, no points will be assessed by the Department of Motor Vehicles against your driver's license; however it will appear on your driving history.

Points are only given if there is a conviction (a finding of guilty) or a bond forfeiture, after a court hearing. Points are assessed by the Connecticut DMV. For more information about points assigned by the Connecticut DMV, call Driver Services at 860-263-5720 for general information or visit the CT DMV website.

The Connecticut DMV or Judicial Branch site should list what offenses or points total will result in the suspension of a driver's license.
